This capital project involved constructability design, fabrication, and installation of a plant expansion comprising of an acid gas injection system. The scope encompassed structural, mechanical, and civil activities for a ground up construction and brownfield tie-in to an existing legacy sour gas facility.
Challenges included a compressed timeline, risk exposure to the live facility, and condensed work areas. VDC workflows, precision 3D scanning, and site survey enabled 98% off-site prefabrication of structural steel, carbon and stainless spools, and expedited delivery to site that would be not possible with conventional workflows.
Early contractor engagement and the VDC approach proved to be a catalyst to identifying multiple RFI items in the constructability review of the model that was provided and subsequently eliminated numerous potential costly project errors. All spools and structural were installed with no fitment issues or rework.
